Abstract

This dissertation aims, through musical analysis, bring to light the compositional processes involved in the elaboration of the pieces O Passarinho de Pano (The Little Cloth Bird), A Baratinha de Papel (The Little Paper Bug) and O Gatinho de Papelão (The Little Cardboard Cat) from the Prole do Bebê No. 2 (Baby\'s Family) suite by Heitor Villa-Lobos. Produced during his modernist phase, the work was created primarily toward his emancipation from the traditional processes of composition prevailing in the early twentieth century, specially in Rio de Janeiro. The nine solo piano pieces integrates a collection with high level difficulty of execution and structural complexity, constituting a constant source of inspiration for questions related to the analysis, to musical interpretation and their interrelationship.
