Abstract

The present invention patent application relates to a method and to a device for removing the modulation of an amplitude modulated optical carrier wave and adding a new modulation. The invention can be applied in optical networks having centralised light sources for implementing the fiber-to-the-home connection structure, allowing the downstream channel to be remodulated with new information in order to operate as an upstream channel and carry return data without requiring an additional wavelength. Channel re-use doubles the capacity of a system with a fixed number of channels, dispensing with a light source at the final/remote user location.
