Adriana Leiras

Prof. Adriana Leiras has been a Professor on the Teaching and Research Board at the Department of Industrial Engineering since 2013. She is the coordinator and a member of the Operations and Business in Engineering concentration area, working in the Operations Management research line. Her research interests focus on Humanitarian Operations and its interfaces with sustainable development, covering the intersection of engineering, management, and public policy. Her research adopts multi-method approaches (qualitative and quantitative) to design and evaluate policies and strategies to develop more efficient, effective, and equitable Humanitarian Operations. Post-doctorate in Logistics Systems Engineering by the University of São Paulo - USP (2012), Ph.D. in Production Engineering by PUC-Rio (2011), Master in Production Engineering by PUC-Rio (2006), and Graduate in Production Engineering by PUC-Rio (2004). Visiting Professor at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Switzerland (2022). She is the founder and Coordinator of the HANDs laboratory - Humanitarian Assistance and Needs for Disasters. She is the leader of the CNPq Research Group entitled Logistics and Humanitarian Operations. She is also the regional humanitarian logistics and disaster response operations project leader for the MIT SCALE Latin America Network and current Ex-officio advisor of the POMS Latin American Caribbean Chapter. She previously served POMS as President of the POMS Latin American Caribbean Chapter and Regional Vice President Americas. She is editor-in-chief of the Production Journal and associate editor of the Journal of Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Management (JHLSCM).
