Bachelor in History (1981), Master in Social Anthropology (1989), and PhD in Archaeology (2009) always at the University of Sao Paulo, having also studied at the University of Pittsburgh department of Anthropology PhD program. She is currently an associate researcher at Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi in Belém, and also collaborates with the Laboratory of Tropical Archaeology at University of Sao Paulo. Cristiana has carried out archaeological research with shell mounds of southeastern Brazil, with ring villages of central Brazil, and ceramic sites and collections from the Brazilian Amazon. She has also written on the history of archaeology in Brazil. In the last 15 years she has focused on iconographic analysis of Amazonian archaeological ceramics, especially regarding representations of the body, bridging perspectives from Amazonian Ethnology, Anthropology of Art, and archaeological Amazonian contexts. She teaches at the Graduate Program in Sociocultural Diversity at the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi and is the Archaeology associate editor for the Boletim do Museum Paraense E.
