Having master and PhD on Chemical Engineering, she was full professor at Polytechnic Scholl of University of São Paulo, USP, from 1983 up to 2012. She has expertise in Biochemical Engineering and has been working on the developing of microbial cultures in liquid and solid media in various volumes of bioreactors focusing the scale-up of the process, the high cell density and the process of protein purification. Among the by products are the heterologous proteins in Escherichia coli, the secondary metabolites of Monascus sp., enzymes as cellulases of filamentous fungus. She has advised dozens of post graduate students in their master and PhD grade studies as well as dozens of under graduate students in their scientific research. She coordinates the Graduate Course of Chemical Engineering of the Polytechnic School as well as the Biotechnology Graduate Course of the USP and had been giving classes about downstream processes for both courses for twenty years. She had published dozen of complete articles in scientific journals, two books, besides three chapters in other books. The researches were supported by Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP), Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos (FINEP), Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES), and by the enterprises Vale, Braskem and Grupo Ultra.
