Professor of Political Science at Universidade de São Paulo (USP). He is graduate in Political Science at Università degli Studi di Bologna (1997), master and PhD. in Political Science at Universidade de São Paulo (2001 and 2006). He was visiting student at Università di Firenze and academic visitor at Oxford University (2014-2015). Areas of expertise: legislative process, electoral systems, parties and party systems, history of political institutions. Currently researching elections and political behaviour during XIX and the beginning of XX centuries - focusing on the Brazilian First Republic (1889-1930) and the period before the Estado Novo (1930-1937) - and the crise of democracy, in particular dealing with the populist phenomenon and militant democracy as a form of response to authoritarian leaders.
