Leila Fonseca has worked at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) since 1985. She has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Uberlândia (1983), a Master's degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (1988) and a PhD in Applied Computing from the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research(1999). She was head of the General Coordination of Earth Observation (OBT) (2014-2018) and head of the Image Processing Division (2011-2013) at INPE. She was a visiting researcher at the University of Santa Barbara, California (1994-1995, 1997). She have worked as Coordinator of the Integration Group for the Protection of the Amazon (GIPAM) at Censipam (2021-2024). Since 15/01/2024, she has been working at Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) as Coordinator of Strategic Studies and New Business. She is a member of the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Program in Remote Sensing at INPE. She is an ad-hoc FAPESP Consultant. She has participated in the CBERS Program (Sino-Brazilian Earth Resources Satellite) since 2002, evaluating the quality of satellite images and in the satellites commissioning activities. He has experience in the area of Computer Science, with an emphasis on Digital Image Processing and Artificial Intelligence, working mainly on the themes of remote sensing applications with an emphasis on land use and cover mapping, evaluation and radiometric correction of satellite images, analysis of multi-resolution and multi-temporal images, object-based image analysis, time series, artificial intelligence. She has also worked in the promotion, preparation and management of important institutional projects in the area of environmental monitoring of Brazilian biomes based on satellites images and also international and nacional cooperations..
