He has a degree in Electrical Engineering from EESC-USP (1982) and a master's and doctorate in Applied Physics from IFSC-USP (1988, 1995). Researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, Embrapa, since 1990. He has been working on the development and use of devices for soil and environmental monitoring and process control in the agricultural area through Wireless Sensor Networks and IoT technologies, such as Precision Agriculture, Smart Irrigation and Climate Change Experiments.
