Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Social Sciences at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp). She holds a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo (1994), a master's degree (1997) and a doctorate (2002) in Social Anthropology, also from the University of São Paulo, and a postdoctoral degree from the Center for Gender Studies (PAGU) at Unicamp (2004-2007). Her research is related to literary life and popular publications of the 19th century, from a perspective that seeks to explore the close relationship between literature and society. She is currently investigating the universe of 19th-century ornamental horticulture, focusing on the notions of representation, tropicality, and power in the context of post- and decolonial studies. She is the author of A encenação da imortalidade (Editora FGV, 2000), Páginas de sensação (Companhia das Letras, 2004), O livro e a leitura no Brasil (Zahar, 2006) and A linguagem sentimental das flores (Editora Unesp, 2022).
