Birthplace: Brazil

I am a professor of Ecology at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), Brazil, with a B.Sc. in Biology and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Ecology and Natural Resources. My research focuses on understanding the processes that shape tropical freshwater biodiversity and how environmental change alters ecosystem functioning and the services these systems provide to society. I combine observational data analysis, ecological modeling, computational simulations, and mesocosm experiments to address questions at the interface of community and ecosystem ecology. I have coordinated research projects supported by national and international agencies, including FAPESP, CNPq, CAPES (Brazil), The Rufford Foundation, The Royal Society (UK), and the NSF (USA). I am currently a CNPq Productivity Fellow and also engage in applied projects involving biodiversity monitoring, hydropower impact assessment, and the design and management of protected areas.
