Peroxiredoxins (Prx) are ubiquitous enzymes capable of degrading organic and hydrogen peroxide as well as peroxynitrite. They are classified as 1-Cys- Prxs or 2-Cys, depending on the number of cysteines involved in its catalytic cycle.
