Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Escola de Artes, Ciências e Humanidades (EACH)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

He works in the field of concept mapping, with an emphasis on the articulation of knowledge from different fields and the mediation between diverse academic cultures. His trajectory combines the rigor of the Natural Sciences with the complexity of the Human Sciences, fostering innovative educational practices, interdisciplinary research, and institutional engagement in contexts marked by epistemological plurality. He holds a Bachelor's degree (1998) and a Licentiate degree in Chemistry (2001), a Masters (2001) and a PhD (2004) in Analytical Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (USP), and a postdoctoral fellowship in Applied Chemometrics from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). Since 2005, he has been a faculty member at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities at USP (EACH/USP Leste), where he currently holds the position of Associate Professor (level 2) and, since 2021, coordinates the undergraduate Teacher Education Program in Natural Sciences, contributing to the preparation of interdisciplinary educators committed to social responsibility. In 2020, he obtained the academic title of Livre-Docente from USP a postdoctoral-level habilitation required in Brazilian public universities that involves a public defense of an original scholarly thesis. His habilitation was granted in the field of Didactics, focusing on the relationship between concept maps and Cognitive Load Theory in instructional design. From 2022 to 2024, he led the Science Education subproject of the Institutional Program for Teaching Initiation Scholarships (PIBID/CAPES). Since 2023, he has been a member of the Faculty Development Working Group (Grupo de Trabalho Formação Docente), linked to the Faculty Development Program (PDPD) coordinated by USPs Offices of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies. He also serves as Assistant Editor of the USP Undergraduate Journal. He leads the Concept Mapping Research Group (GPMC), registered in the CNPq Research Group Directory. In this role, he supervises undergraduate and graduate students, coordinates funded projects, and collaborates with researchers in Brazil and abroad, including Prof. Ian Kinchin (University of Surrey, UK) and Prof. David Harvey (DePauw University, USA). His research projects, supported by FAPESP and CNPq, focus on the integration of learning theories, the epistemology of scientific knowledge, and curricular innovation in science education. His most recent project Identification of Threshold Concepts in Analytical Chemistry: Foundations for Improving Teaching and Learning was approved by FAPESP and will be conducted from 2025 to 2027. His work investigates the use of concept maps and the identification of threshold concepts to overcome conceptual barriers and enhance pedagogical practices. He also collaborates with international research networks, expanding the impact and visibility of his academic contributions. In 2014, he organized the 6th International Conference on Concept Mapping (CMC-2014), reinforcing Brazil's presence in the global field. His scholarly production includes dozens of articles and book chapters published nationally and internationally. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
