Katia Jorge Ciuffi Pires

I graduated in Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (USP) - Ribeirão Preto, in 1990. I continued my studies, obtaining a Master's degree in Sciences also from USP - Ribeirão Preto, in 1993, and completed my Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry at the Universidade Estadual Júlio de Mesquita (UNESP) in 1997. Furthermore, I conducted a Postdoctoral research at FFCL-USP, funded by FAPESP, in 1998.I participated in 15 internships at the renowned University of Salamanca in Spain, spanning from 2006 to 2019. I also engaged in collaborative periods at the Public University of Navarra in Spain, in the years 2007 and 2022.Since 1998, I have been actively involved at the University of Franca, where I hold positions as a researcher and educator. My journey includes various administrative roles, such as coordinating the Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation Scholarships (PIBIC) and overseeing the Postgraduate Program in Sciences, which, under my management, achieved a rating of 5 in the CAPES evaluation. Additionally, I assumed the role of Vice Chancellor for Research and Postgraduate Studies in 2009. Starting from 2018, I hold the position of Chancellor at the University of Franca, also serving as the President of the University Council (Consun). Moreover, I lead the Human Rights and Social Responsibility Working Group of CSED.During my tenure, I established the Research Support Office at Unifran in 2016, as well as the Internationalization Office. My international collaboration is robust and has endured since 2004, maintaining strong ties with research groups at the University of Salamanca and the Public University of Navarra. Together, we coordinate bilateral collaborative projects, supported by both CAPES and FAPESP. In both universities, I have participated as a foreign researcher in research projects and selection processes for theses and scholarships.I played an active role in training highly qualified human resources, many of whom now hold positions in public and private universities across the country, with a total of 15 master's dissertations and 12 doctoral theses under my guidance already defended.In addition to my academic roles, I am a part of the editorial boards of various journals, including "Applied Surface Science Advances" from Colombia, "Advances: Investigación em Ingenieria," "Revista Hidrids Advancess," and "Frontiers in Catalysis."My research is primarily focused on the field of Inorganic Chemistry, with a special emphasis on Bio-Inorganic and New Materials, addressing applications related to environmental sustainability, homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. I have a particular interest in areas such as metalloporphyrins, development of new materials, and synthesis of solid matrices using the sol-gel method, geared towards applications in oxidation reactions and adsorption/degradation processes of pollutants.I am currently a Researcher 1C at CNPq (as of the 2019 evaluation) and have had the opportunity to coordinate around 32 projects with support from FAPESP, including institutional technical reserve projects, as well as 3 projects in partnership with CAPES.
