Ana Luiza D?ÁvilaViana is an economist.She began her economics course at the Universidade de São Paulo School of Economics, Management and Accounting (FEA) in 1968 and graduated in 1974 from the UniversidadeCândido Mendes School of Economics and Politics in Rio de Janeiro. She concluded her masters in economics in 1981 and her doctorate in 1994, both at the Unicamp (Universidade de Campinas) institute of economics.She is a retired USP lecturer, where she taught from 2002 to 2015 at the School of Medicine?s Department of Preventive Medicine.She is a supervisor for this department's graduate program (currently supervising four doctorate theses). She was a researcher at the NEPP (Centre for Study of Public Policies) of Unicamp from 1986 to 1994; a professor at the IMS (Institute of Social Medicine) of UERJ from 1995 to 2002, and head of the Department of Planning and Administration in Health of the IMS of UERJ, from 1996 to 1998. In 2011 she was director of DECIT (Department of Science and Technology), part of the SCTIE (Secretary of Science and Technology and Strategic Supplies) of the Ministry of Health. In her professional activities she has interacted with more than 100 associates as co-authors of scientific works in 37 national and international research projects.Her teaching activities have entailed the supervision of 23 doctorate theses and 15 masters dissertations (as of December 2016). Her main lines of research are social and health policies, both in Brazil and compared to foreign policies; research methodology in public policies; the political economics of social protection and of social policies; social protection systems; public and private dimensions of social policies in Brazil; and institutional aspects of social policy and of health. She currently coordinates the research project Region and Networks (www.regiaoeredes.com.br/), public tender project MCTI/CNPQ/CT-SAÚDE/MS/SCTIE/DECIT # 41/2013.
