Graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine at the Federal University of Ceará in 1996, he completed his Medical Residency in Internal Medicine and Clinical Gastroenterology at Hospital das Clínicas de Ribeirão Preto - USP (1997-2000). He is a Specialist in Digestive Endoscopy, certified by the Brazilian Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SOBED, 2000), and a Specialist in Gastroenterology, certified by the Brazilian Federation of Gastroenterology (FBG, 2013). He earned his PhD in Clinical Medicine in 2002 and his Professorship in Gastroenterology in 2012, both from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, USP. His post-doctoral research was conducted with a Capes-Prodoc scholarship in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at UFC (2002-2003), and he served as a Senior Visiting Professor at Queen Mary University of London (2019-2020). Since 2003, he has been a professor of Gastroenterology at the Federal University of Ceará and is currently the head of the Department of Clinical Medicine. His research focuses on Gastrointestinal Inflammation, Digestive Motility, and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. As a CNPq scholarship researcher since 2007, he has authored over 158 original articles and supervised 26 master's theses and 20 doctoral dissertations in Pharmacology, Medical Sciences, and Surgical Sciences at UFC. He has also served as President of the Ceará Association of Gastroenterology (FBG, 2014-2016) and of the Ceará chapter of the Brazilian Society of Digestive Endoscopy (2021-2022).
