Doctor Selma Pantoja has a bachelor?s degree in History from the Fluminense Federal University in Brazil, a Master?s degree in Social History from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Sao Paulo. She has done Post-Doctorate studies at Howard University in the U.S. from 2001 to 2002, and at the Universities of Lisbon and Agostinho Neto from 2007 to 2008 in Portugal and Angola. She is currently a professor and researcher at the Postgraduate Program in Development, Society and International Cooperation. She recently retired as a titular professor at the University of Brasilia in Brazil, where she taught African History for more than 20 years. She has published several books and articles with the following themes: societies and cultures from the Atlantic slave trade time and gender relations; formulation and conceptual problems between Atlantic and African histories with special emphasis on studies in the West Central African Region, Angola. She currently works on themes related to History and Literature, narratives and post-colonial issues; the debate on international cooperation with Africa and the issues surrounding development / cooperation in partnerships with Portuguese-speaking countries on the African continent. Her research and publication also include the topic of urban spaces in Angola based on recent conceptual debates, such as South theories from the perspective of African cities.
