Fábio Braz Machado

I am a geologist specializing in Igneous Petrology, Volcanology, and Geochemistry, with over two decades of dedicated research on the Serra Geral Group in the Paraná Basin, particularly in its northern segment. Since 2001, my work has focused on the characterization of basaltic and gabbroic rocks, fields in which I have developed solid technical and scientific expertise.Currently, I am an Associate Professor in the Geology undergraduate program at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), where I am also a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Geology (PPGGeo-UFPR). I supervise masters and doctoral research and teach the courses Advanced Topics in Igneous Petrology and Physical and Chemical Volcanology. At the undergraduate level, I teach Igneous Petrology, Endogenous Geochemistry, and Volcanism, in addition to advising undergraduate research and final-year projects.Since 2020, I have served as Editor-in-Chief of the Boletim Paranaense de Geologia and as faculty advisor of the PET-Geology group at UFPR. Previously, I was Editor-in-Chief of Geociências (UNESP, 20032010) and served as editorial secretary of the Brazilian Journal of Geology (SBG, 20142020), contributing actively to the advancement and dissemination of scientific knowledge in the Geosciences.My teaching career began in 2007 at private institutions and as a substitute professor at UNESP (20072010). In 2010, I was appointed as a tenure-track professor at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), where I worked under an exclusive dedication regime (40 hours/week) until my transfer to UFPR in 2020a process concluded in record time.I am the author of Mineralogia Óptica (Oficina de Textos), one of the best-selling and most widely adopted books in the field. In recognition of my academic contributions and science communication efforts, I was awarded the Medal of Honor for Distinguished Contribution by the Brazilian Geological Society (SBG) in 2018, and in 2024, I received the Monteiro Lobato Gold Medal, granted by SBG to the geoscientist who most significantly contributed to the popularization of Geosciences in Brazil.
