Hiro Goto

Graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of USP (FMUSP) (1972), has a Master's degree in Medicine from FMUSP (1984), a PhD in Medicine from FMUSP (1988), a postdoctoral degree in the Department of Immunology, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden (1990 - 1993), and Associate Professor at FMUSP (2004). She has been a professor at the University of São Paulo since 1988, retired as an Associate Professor and is currently a Senior Professor at the Department of Preventive Medicine at FMUSP. Works at the Institute of Tropical Medicine of São Paulo (IMT), FMUSP, USP where she held the position of Technical-Scientific Director from 2006 to 2010. Research fellow by CNPq 1C. She has experience in the area of applied immunology, with emphasis on immunopathology and diagnosis, working mainly on the following topics: visceral leishmaniasis, leishmania, insulin-like growth factor and lipoproteins.Recently, the vaccine research line for bovine mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus was incorporated..She participated in the World Health Organization's visceral leishmaniasis diagnostic network. She coordinated the cooperation project between the Instituto de Medicina Tropical, USP and University of Bergen, Norway (CAPES-SIU) and participated as Principal Investigator of the cooperation projects USP and York University, United Kingdom (Medical Research Council GCRF. Currently, she participates as principal investigator of the project UK-FAPESP Thematic Project, United Kingdom:Brazil Center for the Study of Leishmaniasis (JCPiL)", specifically within Subproject/Work Plan (WP) 1 entitled "Molecular pathology of leishmaniasis: towards host-directed therapy in leishmaniasis coordinated by Prof. Paul M. Kaye (University of York) and Hiro Goto (USP). She is the president of the 59th. Congress of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine - MEDTROP 2024 - to be held in São Paulo, SP in September 2024.
