Graduated in History from the University of São Paulo (1976), Master in Social History from the University of São Paulo (1987) and PhD in Social History from the University of São Paulo (1996), post-doctorate at the Università degli Studi di Milano/Italy ( 1997/98), where he served as a guest professor.Former professor of the Postgraduate Program at the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (Assis); of the Dept. History at PUC-SP; from the Mackenzie University Communications Center. He works in general and Brazilian Contemporary History, on the following topics: cultural history of socialism, intellectuals, the left in general, parties and immigration. He coordinated the Research Group "E/Immigrations: histories, cultures, trajectories", at CNPq, and several international research programs. He worked as an evaluator for the National Higher Education Assessment System (BASIS/INEP/MEC); Published books: A possible socialism (1989); Sociable socialism: history of the democratic left (1998); Russian Revolution: a history in debate (2007); Italiani in Brasile: rotte migratory and percorsi culturale.
