Nelson Gouveia graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of São Paulo (1986), has a Master's degree in Epidemiology (MSc) in 1993 and a Doctorate in Public Health (PhD) in 1998, both from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine - University of London. He is a Full Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of São Paulo Medical School and is currently the Director of the Instituto de Medicina Tropical at FMUSP. He is president (2024-2026) of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE), was Vice-President of ABRASCO (Brazilian Public Health Association), and is a member of its Health and Environment Thematic Group. He has served on several technical advisory committees for the Ministry of Health. He has experience in the area of Epidemiology and Global Health, with an emphasis on Environmental Health.
