Joel holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences with a focus on Medical Sciences from the São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP - Botucatu) and a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Bern, Switzerland. He conducted his postdoctoral research at the Department of Molecular Neuro-Oncology at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Upon returning to Brazil, he carried out a Young Investigator project funded by Fapesp at the Department of Micro-Immunology and Parasitology at the São Paulo Medical School. Currently, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) - Diadema Campus. His scientific expertise lies in the area of Cancer Cellular and Molecular Biology and the host-parasite relationship, with a focus on cellular signaling mechanisms and cell death.
