Associate Professor at the Federal University of São Paulo-UNIFESP, where he is responsible for the subjects of Parasitology and Pathogens of Aquatic Organisms. He was head of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology-UNIFESP from February 2017 to February 2020. He is an accredited professor in the Postgraduate Program in ANIMAL BIOLOGY at the Institute of Biology at the State University of Campinas-UNICAMP and in the Postgraduate Program in ECOLOGY AND EVOLUTION from the Federal University of São Paulo-UNIFESP and Collaborating Researcher at the Natural History Museum- NHM in London. He completed post-doctoral studies at the Natural History Museum-NHM (2016-2017) and at the Faculty of Animal Science and Food Engineering-FZEA/USP (2007-2009). PhD in Parasitology from the State University of Campinas-UNICAMP (2004), master's degree in Biological Sciences from the State University of Campinas-UNICAMP (1999), bachelor's degree in biology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (1995). He was a consultant for the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) working at the National Center for Continental Fish Research-CEPTA/ICMBio (2004-2005), when he participated in the Pantanal Program, carrying out research with fish from the Upper Paraguay basin. In the area of fish pathogen research, he coordinated the FAPESP Young Researcher Project from 2007 to 2012, and several regular FAPESP and CNPq projects between 2012 and 2022. He is currently coordinator of the FAPESP Thematic Project. He has experience in research on cnidarians adapted to parasitism (Myxozoa), with an emphasis on diversity, systematic, development, and parasite-host interaction. He carries out research on the taxonomy, diversity, and evolution of Monogenea and other groups of metazoan parasites of aquatic animals. He is a member of the board of directors of the Brazilian Association of Aquatic Organism Pathologists-ABRAPOA and a member of the European Association of Fish Pathologists-EAFP.
