Helotonio Carvalho has a Chemistry degree (1993) and a Ph.D in Biochemistry (1999) from University of São Paulo (USP, São Paulo, Brazil). He worked as a postdoc at Harvard School of Public Health and USP. His areas of expertise include cell signalling, reactive oxygen species, cell death and health effects of air pollution. He worked as an Assistant Professor at Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP, 2016-2014), teaching Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Dr. Helotonio is now an Associate Professor at the Biophysics Dept., Federal University of Pernambuco (Recife, Brazil). He has has experience in Biochemistry, acting on the following subjects: apoptosis, oxidative stress, cell signalling, DNA repair and health effects of air pollution. Lately, he has been working on air quality monitoring, evaluation of availability and ease of access to public data on air quality and on air quality standards. He has been also working to elucidate biological effects of air pollution with emphasis on oxidative stress, cytokines and cell signalling and on apoptotic cell death. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
