I am a full tenured professor in the Department of Gerontology at UFSCar. I hold a degree in Biological Sciences (Bachelor's and Licentiate) from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1993-1997) and a doctorate in Sciences, specializing in Physiology, from the Federal University of São Carlos (2000-2004). I completed a doctoral internship (2002) at the Department of Microbiology of the University of Virginia Health System, in Charlottesville, VA, USA, and postdoctoral studies at the Institute de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM, Unité 553) in Paris (2005-2006), at UFSCar (2007-2009), at Trinity College Dublin (2021-2022), and at the University of Barcelona (2025-2026). I was awarded a Visiting Fellowship (2015) by the University of Nottingham, England. I coordinate LABEN - the Laboratory of Biology of Aging. I lead the research group in Biology of Aging, registered in the CNPq research group directory. I supervise students in the Postgraduate Programs in Gerontology (PPGGero/UFSCar), which is part of the Network of Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Programs on Aging (REPRINTE), and in the Interinstitutional Program in Physiological Sciences (UFSCar/UNESP). I am a reviewer for several journals in the areas of aging, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer, and a scientific advisor for Brazilian (CNPq and FAPESP) and foreign funding agencies (Alzheimer's Association, FONDECYT-Chile, Czech Science Foundation-Czech Republic, United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation, and The Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development). I am a member of the Committee for the Evaluation of New Course Proposals (APCN) and the CAPES quadrennial evaluation, as well as the CAPES Thesis Award in the interdisciplinary area. I collaborate with several international institutions, such as Trinity College Dublin - Ireland, University of Nottingham - UK, Università degli Studi di Milano - Italy, University of Valencia and University of Barcelona - Spain, Université du Québec à Montréal - Canada, Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute - Australia, University of California, Berkeley, Virginia Commonwealth University and Purdue University - USA. I am a Senior Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) of Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. I develop university extension projects focused on scientific communication and teacher training in the areas of brain health, aging, and dementia, through the EnvelheCiência initiative. I have experience in the field of Cell Biology and Biochemistry, with an emphasis on Molecular Biology, mainly working on the following topics: aging, elderly, biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease, ADAMs, cancer, and mammalian cell culture.
