Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (1971), Master's degree (1975) and Doctorate (1980) in Genetics from the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto, USP. Professor of FMRP's undergraduate course and postgraduate programs in Entomology, FFCLRP and Genetics at FMRP, where he coordinated the PG Program for 13 years and was a member of the FMRP Postgraduate Commission for 10 years. He directed 29 master's dissertations and 20 doctoral theses. Published 302 abstracts in national and international congresses; 80 complete papers in indexed journals, being 31 in Brazil and 49 abroad. In 1990, within the project of Training of Teachers in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of USP, Dr. Walter Steven Sheppard, at the Beneficial Insects Laboratory, USDA-ARS, Beltsville, Maryland, on "Methods for the analysis of bee mitochondrial DNA". In 2006 he received a "Senior Internship Abroad" grant from CNPq and went to the Department of Entomology, University of Minnesota, USA, under the NSF-funded "The role of olfactory mediated cues in resin collection by honey bees". Coordinated by Dr. Marla Spivak. In 1987, the Regional International Organization for Agricultural and Livestock Health (OIRSA), based in El Salvador, CA, through the Regional Program for the Management and Control of Africanized Bees, financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). This project resulted in the publication of ten books, among which "Crianza de Reinas de Abeja melífera ccidental", of which I am one of the authors, and which was recognized and awarded the Gold Medal at the XXXII International Apimondia Beekeeping Congress held in Rio de Janeiro, in October of 1989. The activities were related to the advisory services and training courses in several Central American countries. I am a member of the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo and a member of the Scientific Technical Commission of the Brazilian Confederation of Apiculture (CBA), having participated in the organization of several national congresses and regional meetings. Since 2003 and annually we have given the Cultural Diffusion Course: Bees for the Best Age, by the Pro-Rectory of Culture and Extension, within the program Open University to the Third Age. I have experience in Genetics, with emphasis on Animal Genetics, working mainly on the following subjects: control and prevention of accidents with Africanized bees, genetic improvement, instrumental insemination, biology and genetics of Africanized bees and stingless bees, beekeeping and Meliponiculture.
