Gradutated in mining engineering at UFMG-Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1984), MSc. in metallurgy (1988) and PhD at Universidade de São Paulo-USP (1991). Post-doctoral study (academic visitor) at Imperial College of Sciences and Technology (1994) collaborating with the "Mining and Environment Research Group". Professor at USP since 1990 at Engineering School - Mining Engineering Department: assistant professor (1990-1999), associate professor (1999-2001), full professor (since 2001). Research and development in the following areas/subjects: mineral processing, effluent and waste processing, development of new flotation reagents, surface phenomena and transport phenomena applied to mineral processing, reclamation of degraded land by mining. Leader of research group. Department head 2010-2013. Recipient of the "Samarco Award of Mineral Technology" (2012). Adjunct research professor at University of South Australia (Ian Wark Research Institute) 2011-2013. International Faculty Fellow at Sloan School of Business-MIT in 2016. Scientific director of Vale Institute of Technology (2013-2019). Member of the (Brazilian) National Academy of Engineering since April of 2019, serving as director (2020-2021) and member of the Committee of Innovation. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
