Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP) in 1989, with a Medical Residency in Psychiatry from the Institute of Psychiatry (IPq) of the Hospital das Clínicas of the FMUSP (1990-1992). He completed his Master's (1995) and Doctorate (2000) from the Psychiatry Program at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo. Specialization in Geriatric Psychiatry at the University of London (Institute of Psychiatry, Section of Old Age Psychiatry) (1996-1997). In May 2010, he obtained the title of Full Professor at FMUSP. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychiatry at FMUSP, performing assistance, teaching and research activities with a focus on Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurosciences. Lines of research focus on the following topics: (1) Clinical and clinical-laboratory research: dementias and cognitive disorders in the elderly (Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment), delirium, mood disorders in the elderly (depression and bipolar disorder); (2) Basic and translational research: pathophysiological mechanisms, experimental models (neuronal cultures), molecular biology, biomarkers. He is currently Head of the Department of Psychiatry at FMUSP and Vice-coordinator and permanent advisor of the Postgraduate Program in Psychiatry at FMUSP. Member of the Research Commission (CPq) of FMUSP, having served as vice-presidency of this collegiate between 5/10/2013 and 5/9/2015. In the clinical field, he is the Coordinator of the Geriatric Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic at LIM27. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
