Senior Full Professor at the Department of Production Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, where he coordinates the Innovation Management Laboratory (sites.usp.br/lgi). The laboratory conducts research, offers courses, and, through NAGI (Innovation Management Support Center, created under a Finep project), supports the implementation and improvement of innovation organization and management systems in established companies (currently working with the Federal Police and CBMM - Companhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração). It also assists knowledge-intensive entrepreneurs in mitigating uncertainties within innovation ecosystems.Founder and former coordinator of the Innovation and Competitiveness Observatory at the Institute for Advanced Studies at USP, one of USPs Research Support Centers. Established through a competitive grant with external referees, this observatory focuses on public policies for innovation and productive development, involving researchers from Sociology, Law, Engineering, Business Administration, and Medicine. He is the coordinator of a Fapesp Thematic Project on managing uncertainties in innovation activities, initiated in April 2019, connected to a network of several universities in Brazil and abroad (Babson College and NYU/USA; Cambridge/UK; Aalborg/Denmark; Universidad Nacional de Colombia).He holds a degree in Production Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (1979), a masters degree in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1985), a specialization in Technological Innovation and Development (IDS, University of Sussex, England, 1986), a doctorate in Production Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (1991), including a study period at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy (1989), and postdoctoral studies at the Laboratoire Techniques, Territoires et Sociétés / École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (Latts-Enpc, France, 1996) and at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY, USA, Dec. 2014 Jan. 2015). He became a tenured professor (Livre-Docente) in Production Engineering at EPUSP in 1998.He has served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Technological Research Institute of São Paulo State (IPT), appointed by the Governor of São Paulo (20102019), and as a member of the Technical-Scientific Council of the National Institute of Technology (INT, 20082015), appointed by the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation. He was Director of the Brazilian Industrial Development Agency (ABDI), appointed by the President of Brazil (20052006), and Director of the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), appointed by the Minister of Planning (20032004). He was also part of the coordination team for the Executive Group that drafted the Guidelines for Industrial, Technological, and Foreign Trade Policy (PITCE) in 20032004.He is an ad hoc consultant for CAPES, CNPq, FAPESP, Finep, IDB (Inter-American Development Bank), and several scientific journals.
