Geraldo Balieiro graduated with a Bachelors degree in Animal Science in 1992, Masters degree in Animal Nutrition at FMVZ/USP/SP in 1998, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Animal/Livestock Husbandry and Production in 2007 at FCAV/UNESP/SP. In 2010, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Biotechnology at Evora University, Portugal, and a post-doctoral in Animal Nutrition (dual-flow system) at University of Florida, Gainesville, USA. Since 1998, Dr. Balieiro has worked as a scientific researcher, firstly at EPAMIG and nowadays at Animal Science Institute from São Paulo Government - Department of Agriculture and Food Supply (SAA/APTA, 2005). Dr. Balieiro previously served as teacher in Faculty of Veterinary Medicine from University of Franca - UNIFRAN, Franca, Director of Research from SAA/APTA and member of Permanent Committee of Full Time Regime from Research Institutes from São Paulo State. He was the Manager Responsible for experimental herds at the Department of Agriculture and Food Supply of São Paulo Agency for Agribusiness Technology (SAA/APTA), member of the Biosafety Technique Committee of São Paulo Research Institute and currently Deputy Director of the Technological Innovation Nucleus TIN (TIN) from Animal Science Institute of SAA/APTA. Currently, Dr. Balieiro works in food safety and sustainable food production, and he has recently developed feed additive as antibiotic alternatives based on antibodies against yeasts, deposited at the INPI. Experiments with seaweeds and ionized amino acids was carried out at the Advanced Center for Beef Cattle - IZ - Sertãozinho, aimed to modulate the microbiota of the digestive system of ruminants, without antibiotics use, for better efficiency and methane reduction. This ongoing work aims at adapting the continuous dual flow system to assess methane emissions. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
