He holds a degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo, a master's degree in Neurology from the University of São Paulo (1980) and a PhD in Neurology from the University of São Paulo (1988). He is a Research Physician at the Irmandade da Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo and Professor Emeritus of Neurology at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo. He is a former president of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (2014-2016) and current president of the São Paulo Association of Neurology; former president of the Brazilian Society of Cerebrovascular Diseases. He has experience in Medicine, with an emphasis on Neurology, working mainly on the following topics: stroke, cerebrovascular disease, carotid arteries, carotid atherosclerosis and diagnosis, prevention and treatment of stroke.
