Birthplace: Brazil

Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island (1997). She is a professor at the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo. Her specialty is Physical Oceanography focused on the study of ocean-atmosphere interaction processes with an emphasis on studies of interannual/decadal-scale variability of heat fluxes, mode water formation and the Meridional Overturning circulation (MOC) of the South Atlantic. Her interests include the following subjects: meridional heat flux; satellite oceanography; intra and interannual and decadal variability of oceanic flows; mode water formation in the South Atlantic; oceanic heat storage varibility; and the role of salinity in the oceanic circulation, hydrological cycle and climate change. In addition to her teaching and research assignments, she serves as coordinator of the Work Package (WP5) of the All-Atlantic Cooperation for Ocean Research and innovation (AANChOR) to establish Common Standards for Information and Data Sharing, under the coordination of the European Union Horizon 2020. Other activities abroad involve: i) member of the CLIVAR Atlantic Regional Panel, ii) member of the SAMOC Executive Committee, iii) member of OCEATLAN, the GOOS Alliance for the Southwestern Atlantic.
