Luiz R. Nunes obtained his Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1988. He also obtained a Masters degree in Parasitology from USP in 1991 and a Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1996. He worked at the University of Mogi das Cruzes (UMC) from 1997 to 2011 and has been a professor at the Federal University of ABC since 2012. His research interests focus on genomic studies of microorganisms, including the phytopathogenic bacterium Xylella fastidiosa and the human pathogenic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis.
