He holds a Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from the University of São Paulo (1996), a Master's degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from the University of São Paulo (1999), and a Ph.D. in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (2007) from the same institution. Between 2013 and 2015, he conducted post-doctoral research at the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute of the University of Southampton (England); between 2020 and 2021, he worked as a visiting researcher at the Department of Production and Systems of the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal).He is a professor and doctor at the University of São Paulo, in the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. His main area of research is in integer linear programming, involving the development of mathematical models, exact methods, and heuristics applied to the planning of logistical systems. He works on problems in the area of waterway transport, with particular interest in the planning of coastal navigation, inland navigation, offshore maritime support, and logistics network design. He also deals with topics related to sustainability, CCS, and energy transition. In partnership with the University of Minho, he has worked on problems related to the planning of forest fire combat operations. He supervises students in the Postgraduate Program in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (USP) and the Postgraduate Program in Logistics Systems Engineering (USP). He coordinates the RouteLab - Research on Optimization, Simulation, Transportation and Environment Laboratory (https://sites.usp.br/route/) of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at USP.
