He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic School of USP (1983), a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution (1989), a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1994) and a Post-Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1999). He is currently a Full Professor at the Polytechnic School of USP. He was secretary of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Committee of ABCM - Brazilian Association of Mechanical Engineering and Sciences. He has experience in Mechanical Engineering, with an emphasis on Thermal and Energy Engineering, working mainly on the following topics: liquid-vapor phase change, use and processing of natural gas, absorption refrigeration, supersonic separation of gas mixtures, vortex tubes, concentrated solar energy and alternative and renewable energy systems in general. He has coordinated several extension courses and currently coordinates the specialization course in Renewable Energies, Distributed Generation and Energy Efficiency at USP. He has taught university extension courses for professionals in the areas of thermoelectric plants, energy, valves and industrial pipelines. He has participated in research projects for government agencies and companies, including: Fapesp, Finep, Cnpq, Eletropaulo, Ultragaz, Ipiranga, Comgas, Shell and Petrobras. He was a visiting professor at INSA - Institut National des Sciences Appliquées in Lyon (France) in June and July 2009. He is the author of more than 100 technical-scientific articles, in addition to being the author of three books: (a) Fundamentals and Applications of Psychrometry - 2nd ed., (b) Renewable Energies, Distributed Generation and Energy Efficiency - 3rd ed. and (c) Fundamentals of Heat Transfer for Engineering.
