Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). Instituto de Biologia (IB)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Graduated in Pharmacy and Biochemistry from São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1997), holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of São Paulo (2002), and completed postdoctoral training at the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Foundation (2006) and The Scripps Research Institute (2012). Currently, he is a professor at the Institute of Biology at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), affiliated with the Department of Biochemistry and Tissue Biology. His academic and scientific trajectory encompasses the fields of Genomics, Biochemistry, Molecular, and Cellular Biology, with a focus on translational control mechanisms, ubiquitination, protein degradation, and their implications in neurodegeneration and developmental processes. His work is groundbreaking in the field, having been the first to identify an E3 ligase involved in the cotranslational degradation of defective nascent chains. He is an active member of the international Structural Genomics Consortium and has extensive experience in scientific management, having served as deputy coordinator of a National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT) funded by the 2014 call. Currently, he is part of the coordination team of the Medicinal Chemistry Center of UNICAMP (CQMED). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
