Birthplace: Brazil

Professor Pereira receive his Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Maria - UFSM (1998), masters in Transportation Engineering from Universidade de São Paulo (2001) and doctorate in Transportation Engineering from Universidade de São Paulo (2003). Prof. Pereira has experience in Civil Engineering, focusing on Roads, Design, Construction and Evaluation. He is an Full Professor at Federal Santa Maria University (UFSM) in Transportation Department. He has 9 masters and 1 doctorates academic supervisions concluded. He acted as Tecnology Center vice-director and also had Councils and Commissions positions at UFSM. He has more than 60 papers in journals and received an award regarding his masters research by the National Transportation Confederation, in 2002. He has expertise on coordinating research projects sponsored by industries, with over US$ 4.5 million in sponsorship.Main Research Projects in progress1.Roughness: The project examines the influences of roughness on economic traffic operation (including cost model development by vehicular telemetry) and traffic noise. Inserted in the current scenario of changes instituted in pavement design methodology in Brazil, the present study seeks to contribute to the roughness prediction, represented by the International Roughness Index (IRI), through the elaboration of functional models from national pavements. Through monitoring actions on sites located in Santa Maria/RS and Rio de Janeiro/RJ, evolution of IRI was evaluated, correlating this indicator with other parameters measured in the field.2.Constructive aspects on performance pavement: This project aims at the evaluation of the longitudinal irregularity during the execution of the constituent layers during the implementation of road sections and of the track restoration work, evaluating the effective reduction of the IRI parameter. 3.Asphalt concrete and its technological control in the field:The project is focused on the verification of binder content and granulometry of asphalt mixtures for technological control of the construction process.4.Interface condition between Asphalt Concrete and granular bases: This research proposes the evaluation of the bond condition between a granular material layer and an asphalt concrete layer. A test was designed to determine the adherence between the study layers based on interface shear. 5.Pavement Marking and Traffic Signs Performance:The project focus on road markings and traffic signs evaluation with different materials and evaluation methods.
