Vanderlei A. Silva is a co-owner of FORENG, a company specialized in electrical studies for the Brazilian Electrical Power System (EPS). He is also Associate Researcher at Tech2Think (T2T) and Gnarus Institute. His research interest includes ANEEL Research and Development (RD) projects on Energy Generation, Transmission, and Distribution, as well as Machine Learning. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Paraná - UFPR, Brazil in 2022. In his doctoral research, he proposed a practical methodology for voltage regulation in unbalanced three-phase distribution systems with the active participation of multi-microgrids. He also proposed to model the microgrid day-ahead scheduling problem using a MILP technique. He received the Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of São Paulo USP, the specialist degree in Electrical System Protection (CEPSE) from the Federal University of Itajubá UNIFEI, and the undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the State University of Londrina - UEL.For 11 years he worked as an Automation, Protection, and Control Engineer at COPEL Distribuição S.A. There, he gained experience in automation and control of power substations. He was responsible for specifying, developing, and implementing the FDIR (Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery) functionality in Copel Distribuição's automation system, which is currently in operation. He was responsible for specifying the DMS - Distribution Management System Module - during the process of acquiring the ADMS-Advanced DMS system by Copel Distribuição. He also worked on developing projects of Thermal Image of Power Transformers, regarding the elaboration of logic and adjustments to protection relays and its implementation in substations of energy. At Copel, he was a training instructor in SCADA system, Linux, and automatic restoration of substations and load busbars. He also has experience in teaching at an undergraduate level, having performed lectures for Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering courses in São Paulo, Brazil. The courses include theory and laboratory of Digital Signal Processing I and II, Fundamental Electronics, Digital Systems, Electrical Circuits, and Differential and Integral Calculus Laboratory I, II, and III with Matlab.
