João Queiroz (CNPq Research Productivity Fellow in Linguistics) is a professor at the Institute of Arts and Design (IAD) and the Graduate Program in Linguistics at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), Brazil. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Semiotics from PUC-SP (2002) and completed postdoctoral research in Cognitive Science (Department of Computer Engineering and Automation, UNICAMP, FAPESP, 20032006) and in Philosophy of Science (Institute of Biology, UFBA, and Universidad del País Vasco, CNPq-FAPESB, 20072008). He is author, coauthor, or editor of several books, including Peirces Extended Theory of Signs (Mouton, 2019), Genes, Information, Semiosis (Tartu University Press, 2009), Visualizando Signos (Blucher, 2017), and Charles Sanders Peirce, Cognição e Ação do Signo (Kotter, 2023). He co-edits the projects COMMENS Digital Companion to C. S. Peirce and Encyclopedia of Peirce Studies, in collaboration with Mats Bergman and Sami Paavola (University of Helsinki). He coordinates the Research Group in Cognitive Science and Semiotics (UFJF) and the Iconicity Research Group (https://iconicity-group.org), and is a member of the Research Group on Artificial Cognition (UEFS) and the Linguistics and Language Practice Center at the University of the Free State (South Africa). His research areas include Philosophy of Cognitive Science, Cognitive Semiotics, Peircean Pragmatism, Digital Humanities, and Intermediality, with a focus on distributed cognition, creativity, creative translation, and diagrammatic thinking. He has collaborated with researchers from institutions such as Purdue University, University of Copenhagen, Linnaeus University, UNICAMP, USP, and UFBA, and has been a visiting scholar at universities in France, Spain, Sweden, Uruguay, and the United States.
