Ana Paula Belem Hey

She is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and the Postgraduate Programme in Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. She holds a postdoctoral degree in sociology from King's College London (2015-16). She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology of Education from the Federal University of São Carlos and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales/EHESS, Paris (2004). She was a visiting researcher at the Centre de Recherche sur le Brésil Contemporain (2001-2004) and at the Centre Européen de Sociologie et de Science Politique (2023), both at the EHESS. She has been a visiting professor at the EHESS, Paris, and at Middlesex University, London. She works at the intersection of the sociology of elites, power and education. Her research interests focus on the relationship between elites and the state, and between the Brazilian power field and new symbolic markets (think tanks, private foundations, new philanthropy, higher education and the academic field). She coordinates the Research Group on the Sociology of Education, Culture and Knowledge (GPSECC) and participates in the Centre for the Sociology of Culture (USP). She is a member of the Elite Sociology Study Group of the British Sociological Association and of the Réseau de Recherche Francophone sur la Privatisation de lÉducation (ReFPE). She is a current affiliate of the Brazilian Society of Sociology and the Association Française de Sociologie (Steering Committee of Elites Group). She coordinates the World Elite Database (WED) - Brazil and is a member of the overall WED Project Steering Committee. His publications include Esboço de uma sociologia do campo acadêmico (2008) and co-organised Vocabulário Bourdieu (2017).
