After studying Agricultural and Environmental Engineering at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ; 1983-86), he graduated in Architecture and Urban Planning from the School of Fine Arts of São Paulo (1991), received a Master's and Doctorate from the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of the University of São Paulo (1997 and 2002) and a Post-Doctorate in Urban Economic Sustainable Development from the Polytechnic University of California (CalPoly, 2004), where he was a visiting professor.He has courses in "Introduction to Public Policies", at Insper (2021); "Training of public managers in early childhood development" (Bernard van Leer Foundation / Harvard University, 2017); "Urban financing instruments and mobilization of land appreciation" (Lincoln Institute of Land Police, 2017/8).He has been an Adjunct Professor II, PPI, at the School of Architecture and Urbanism at Mackenzie Presbyterian University (permanent member of the postgraduate program - CAPES Grade 6 Program) since 1997. He has been a member of the NEA - Center for Advanced Studies at Mackenzie Presbyterian University since 2022. He has been Director of FAU-Mackenzie since 2023.He has been a member of the Health and Urban Space Study Group at the Institute of Advanced Studies (IEA-USP) since 2019.He is a board member of the Frente Parlamantar dos Centros Urbanos.In 2011, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Sustainable Urban Development, Columbia University, and at Parsons, NY. In 2012, he was a Visiting Scholar at the College of Environmental Design, UC Berkeley. He was a researcher on the Urban Age Global Cities project - São Paulo (Mackenzie/London School of Economics), 2009.He was a member of the City Council, City Hall of Rio de Janeiro. He was Director of São Paulo Urbanism, City Hall of São Paulo, 2017. He was Coordinator of the Social Urbanism Center of the Insper Cities Laboratory. 2021-23. He was a member of the Advisory Board of the Tide Setúbal Foundation.He is the author of the following books: - "Sustainable Cities, Smart Cities" (Bookman/GrupoA, 2012; finalist for the Jabuti Award); "Social Urbanism in Latin America.
