He holds a degree in Chemistry from UFSCar (1993), followed by a Master's in Organic Chemistry (1995) and a Doctorate in Science (1998) from the same institution. He also completed part of his doctoral research at the National Institute of Sericultural and Entomological Science in Tsukuba, Japan (1996-1997). He served as coordinator of the PPG-Chemistry/UFPR (2002-2004) and was a member of the Chemistry Evaluation Committee at the Paraná State Research Foundation (FAPPR) (2002-2005). Prof. Zarbin is actively involved in various scientific societies, having been president of the International Society of Chemical Ecology (ISCE) (2011-2012), vice-president of the Entomological Society of Brazil (SEB) (2010-2012), secretary of the Paraná regional office of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ) (2002-2004), and president of the Latin American Association of Chemical Ecology (ALAEQ).
