Camila Saraiva is currently an associate researcher at the Center for Favela Studies (Cefavela), UFABC, wherein she coordinates international projects. Between 2020-2023 she developed a postdoctoral research project with funding from the Urban Studies Foundation on the trajectory of favela urbanization policies in São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Medellín, which resulted in the digital platform Tramas Urbanas: Trajetórias da Urbanização da América Latina (https://tramas-urbanas-al.proec.ufabc.edu.br/) among other outputs. She is an architect and urban planner with an interest in issues related to urban inequality, informal settlements, housing, urban practices and theories (from peripheral countries) and comparative methodologies. She holds a PhD from the Institute for Urban and Regional Planning and Research (IPPUR) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) (2019), with a one-year period in the Department of Geography at University College London (UCL) (2014-2015). She has a master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from IPPUR, a specialization in public policy from the Institute of Economics at UFRJ and a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of São Paulo - USP. Throughout her academic career, she has also worked for more than a decade in urban policy planning and implementation in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, sometimes as a civil servant, sometimes as a consultant for governmental, non-governmental and international organizations.
