Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). Instituto de Biologia (IB) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
Dr. Modolo earned her MSc. and PhD degrees in Functional and Molecular Biology (Biochemistry) from State University of Campinas in 2001 and 2004, respectively. She was a postdoctoral fellow (NSF fellowship) at the Noble Research Institute (USA) from 2005 to 2008. She was Visiting Professor in Dr. Richard A. Dixon at the University of North Texas (USA) from Feb/2018 to Jan/2019, period by which she worked with biotechnological approaches to obtain regioselective glucuronosyltransferases towards flavonoids. Dr. Modolo is currently Associate Professor of the Department of Botany (Institute of Biological Sciences) at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Plants is her area of expertise, focusing on secondary metabolism, nitrogen nutrition and signaling processes in plant cells upon environmental stresses. Dr. Modolo is currently Associate Editor of the Journal of Advanced Research (Elsevier; IF JCR 2024 = 11.4) since Jan 2019, Member of de Editorial Board of Plant Nano Biology (Elsevier; Cite score 2024 = 2.8). She was member of the Editorial Board of Recent Patents on Biotechnology (Bentham; 2012 2014) and Journal of Advanced Research (2015 2019). Dr. Modolo has been working as a peer reviewer for over 30 indexed scientific journals, ad hoc consultant for National and International Scientific Funding Agencies, International Book Publishers and CAPES as a member of the committee for the evaluation of the Gratuate Programs hosted in Biodijavascript:void(0)versity area (quadriennal 2017-2020). Dr. Modolo is the founder and head of the Group of Studies on Plant Biochemistry (GEBioPlan; http://dgp.cnpq.br/dgp/espelhogrupo/33103) and co-founder and co-head of the Network for the development of Novel Urease Inhibitors (REDNIU; http://dgp.cnpq.br/dgp/espelhogrupo/37944) and INCT on Urease Inhibitors of Agricultural and Medicinal Interest. Prof. Modolo was Head (2014-2016) and Vice-head (2011-2013) of the Department of Botany at UFMG. Her publications include over 80 peer-reviewed articles (indexed journals), 23 book chapters, 4 scientific books, 3 granted international patents and 5 filed national patents. Her scientific-technological contributions result from prolific collaborative works established with national and international groups (from Denmark, Egypt, USA, India and Italy). Prof. Modolo also coordinates and manages the Modolo Lab channel (www.youtube.com/channel/UCphVgKjXyUVQVvRMI7YvDiQ), which discloses science on Plant Physiology and Biochemistry. She was member of the organizing committee of 2 national scientific events. A total of 15 Master and 17 PhD students were mentored/co-mentored by her. She also advised undergraduate students in 4 course-concluding works and 35 scientific initiations and supervised 4 postdoctoral fellows. Currently, she mentors/co-mentors 1 Master thesis, 2 PhD dissertation and 1 scientific initiation work besides supervising 1 post-doc scientist. As for Scientific Society, she is a member of the Brazilian Society of Plant Physiology, Brazilian Society of Soil Science and American Society of Pharmacognosy.
