Birthplace: Brazil

Professor in Mathematical Physics at Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Unicamp; creator and active member of QuInTec - Quantum Information Technologies; Coordinator of the pro-tempore Commission for Science and Technologies of Quantum Information at the Brazilian Physical Society (SBF); Brazilian Coordinator of World Quantum Day and member of the International Committee; member of the SBF Taskforce for the International Year of Quantum Science and Technologies; leader of the research group Mathematical Foundations of Quantum Theory; member of the National Institute for Science and Technologies of Quantum Information (INCT-IQ); host of the Quantum Chat. B.Sc (1994) and M.Sc. (1997) on Physics from Unicamp. Ph.D. on Physics from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2005), where he has been Associate Professor (1997-2015, under distinct levels in Brazilian career), Marcelo has spent 2006 as a post-doc at Leeds group, under Prof. Vlatko Vedral. Marcelo's major research interest runs from Entanglement characterization and applications, besides other forms of correlation, to Foundations of Quantum Physics, including nonlocality and contextuality. Marcelo is a founding member of EnLight (Entanglement and Quantum Properties of Light) and MathFoundQ (Mathematical Foundations of Quantum Theory) research groups, as well as the research network SPIN off QuBIT (São Paulo Integration and Nucleation of future Quantum Based Information Technology). He has been a member of the organizing committee of Paraty07, Paraty09, Paraty11, Paraty19, and Paraty23 School and Workshop on Quantum Information, as well as of the events Quantum Correlations, Contextuality, and all that (2013)... all that again (2015), ... all that again and again (2017), and all that again^3 (2019); he was also responsible for the Special Session on Mathematics of Quantum Theory in the Colóquio Brasileiro de Matemática; he was appointed the coordinator of the Local Organizing Committee of Congresso Nacional de Matemática Aplicada (CNMAC-2018). He has been an Affiliated Member of Brazilian Academy of Science, and an Associate Member of International Centre for Theoretical Physics. Marcelo has published more than 50 scientific papers, with about 60 coauthors and has received more than 1000 citations according to ISI and more than 2000 according to Google Scholar. He is also the (co-)author of two books, published by IMPA and one by Springer. He has supervised twelve MSc and eight PhD students, besides two post-docs, and currently he is the supervisor of four PhD and three MSc. Marcelo has been the Dean of Graduate Studies in Mathematics at UFMG and the Head of the Applied Math Department at Unicamp. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
