Obtained his Ph. D. in the Physics Institute of the University of São Paulo (Brazil) and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Physics Department, Oklahoma State University (United States), where he became a Professor and lead a productive and well-funded research group for 15 years, having achieved the level of Full Professor. He obtained the Fellowship for Experienced Researchers of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and stayed one year at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg (Germany). He is now at the Paul Scherrer Institute, where he is the Head of the Radiation Metrology Section and of the Dosimetry Group. His research is in the area of dosimetry of ionizing radiation and luminescence detectors, including space dosimetry, neutron dosimetry, personal dosimetry, thermoluminescence and optically stimulated luminescence.
