He holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the Federal University of Pará (1996), a Master's degree in Chemistry from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (1998) and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (2002). He carried out two post-doctoral internships, at the Chemistry Institute of the University of São Paulo (IQ-USP) and at the Virginia Polytechnic and State University (Virginia Tech), both in the area of biosynthesis of natural products. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Walter Mors Natural Products Research Institute (IPPN) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He works in the area of Natural Products Chemistry, and his main lines of research are the bioprospecting of anticancer, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory metabolites in Brazilian plants and marine organisms such as sponges, algae and microalgae. Since 2022 he has been Deputy Director of IPPN-UFRJ and has scientific collaborations with the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPL), in Portugal, and with the Universitá Degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (UNINA), in Italy.
