Birthplace: Brazil

Adilson Alves de Freitas (AAF) graduated in Chemistry in 1998 at Institute of Chemistry, University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, completed his MSc degree in 2001 (thermodynamics of solubilization of organic solutes into surfactant micelles) and his PhD degree in Physical Chemistry in 2005 (thermodynamics, kinetics and photophysics of natural pigments in micellar environment), both at USP. Works in the area of Chemical Sciences, with emphasis in Physical Organic Chemistry. AAF has collaborations with groups from Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Austria, UK, USA, Canada, Brazil, China, Japan and Australia. AAF has large experience in Time-Correlated Single Photon Counting (picosecond resolution) and Ultrafast Time-Resolved Femtosecond Fluorescence Upconversion systems. Also, AAF developed software codes and equations to understand complex fluorescence transients. AAF has more than 30 years of experience in DFT, ab initio and semi-empirical computational methods (Gaussian, ORCA, DALTON, AMSOL and Spartan packages), contributing on reparameterization of the PCM solvation model, theoretical pKa calculations, electronic transitions, and reactivity analysis. Since 2014 AAF has been actively working on MD simulations of many chemical and thermophysical aspects of pure Ionic Liquids, IL in mixtures, IL in solutions, liquid-liquid and solid-liquid interfaces. Also, AAF develops software for MD data analysis. His research interests are kinetics and thermodynamics of ultrafast processes in organized systems; chemistry and photophysics of flavylium salts, anthocyanins and pyranoanthocyanins; structure and dynamics of ionic liquids and other concentrated electrolytes; cement chemistry; linear free energy relationships (LFERs).
