Physicist, graduated from the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of São Carlos (IFQSC-USP) in 1987; Masters and Ph.D. in Optics from the Institute of Physics of São Carlos (IFSC-USP); Postdoctoral research in Ophthalmology and in Electrical Engineering. Since 2004, Associate Professor (Level A3) at the Department of Electrical Engineering, School of Engineering of São Carlos (EESC), University of São Paulo. Obtained Habilitation (Livre-Docência) in Electrical Engineering in 2007. She is the chief coordinator of the Ophthalmic Instrumentation Laboratory (LIO) and the CERTIFICA-LIO Certification Laboratory at EESC-USP. She has been active in the field of Biomedical Engineering with an emphasis on Ophthalmic Instrumentation since 1996, and in standards and testing equipment for sunglasses since 1998. She serves as a consultant to the Brazilian standards committee CB-49 of ABNT and to INMETRO on topics related to sunglasses.Her current research focuses on compliance analyses of sunglasses and the development of analytical parameters aimed at the nationalization of the Brazilian standard for solar protection eyewear. She is the lead developer and technical coordinator of two major international cooperation agreements: EESC-USP with ARC-IBM in San Jose, CA (USA), and EESC-USP with the University of Lisbon.She has collaborated with researchers and institutions such as NIST (Christopher White Gaithersburg, MD), Herbert Hoover at Corning Inc. (Corning, NY, USA), David Sliney (Johns Hopkins University New York, NY, USA), Jane Frommer (IBM San Jose, CA, USA), and Stephen Dain (University of South Wales Sydney, Australia). Her work has been cited in international UV protection guidelines by the WHO (by Peter Geis) and in international standards such as ISO 12312-1:2022. She holds 13 patents, five of which are related to sunglasses. She was nominated by members of the Brazilian standards committee (ABNT) to join the ISO/TC 94/SC 6 Committee on Eye and Face Protection.
