Birthplace: Brazil

Julia is B.S. in Chemistry (Unicamp, 2013), MSc. in Inorganic Chemistry (Unicamp, 2015) and Doctor in Sciences (Unicamp, 2019). She has experience in the area of Medicinal Chemistry, with emphasis on Bioinorganic Chemistry in the development (synthesis and characterization) and evaluation of the activity of antitumor metal complexes. Julia conducted a research internship at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Vienna (Austria) and at the Institute for Cancer Research (Medical University of Vienna) from October / 2018 to June / 2019 with a grant from OeAD (center for European and international mobility and cooperation programs in the fields of education, science and research in Austria), Ernst Mach Grant - worldwide. During her doctorate, both in Brazil and in Austria, she acquired experience in cell culture and cell biology, with an emphasis on cytotoxicity assays and flow cytometry. She was the leader of an ESPRIT (Early Stage Programme: Research, Innovation and Training) project funded by the FWF (Austrian Science Fund). The three-year project evaluated silver and gold complexes as antitumor agents to overcome tumor resistance to platinum compounds. In addition, several collaborations were established during this period. The project also involved in vivo studies, which led to certification to work with animals (Introduction into Laboratory Animal Science - EU Function A: Persons carrying out procedures on animals, 2024).
