Abstract Metal complexes with pharmacological applications have been used in medicine for centuries. Platinum complexes, for example, are used in the treatment of cancer since the 70's of last century, vanadium complexes are currently used to treat diabetes while complexes of gold and silver have been used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and in the treatment of bacterial infections, respectively. For this project, we propose the synthesis of Ag(I) complexes with Schiff bases derived from the anti-inflammatory drug nimesulide. Schiff bases are biologicaly important, occurring in the metabollism as transamination intermediates. The compounds obtained will be characterized by several techniques, with emphasis on analysis by nuclear magnetic resonance 1H, 13C and 15N, infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The compounds will be evaluated initially regarding its antibacterial and antitumor activities, and the results obtained will be compared with commercially available drugs. | |
